Calapan City totally bans plastic bags

CALAPAN CITY, Philippines – This capital city of Oriental Mindoro province now completely banned the use of plastic bags.
This after the city government issued e directive banning the use of plastic bag in all establishment throughout the year.
Last year, the city council passed an ordinance banning the use of plastic on Fridays to Sundays only.  However, the city government decided to extend it to seven days a week starting January this year.
The order came after the city government observed that most plastic bags used by consumers eventually find their way into the waterways, parks, beaches and streets.
Operatives of the city’s public safety department and its special action group, as well as members of the city police station, are tasked to strictly implement and monitor the directive.
Calapan City is the latest additions to the many towns and cities throughout the country which are banning the use of plastic bags.  Laguna is reportedly implementing a province-wide prohibition on the use of plastic.
